ORONO, Maine (WABI) - The Maine Black Bears are the 2024 National Collegiate Rugby Men’s Division II National Champions.

The Black Bears sealed the deal with a 19-14 win over Georgetown.

Maine overcame a two-score deficit in the second half to win the title over the Hoyas.

“It feels so good. It’s just been a thing that we’ve been working on for a really long time. It feels so great to see it finally come to fruition,” said Shawn Nitsche, graduate outside center.

“There’s just something about this club. We claw back from anything. When I’m on the pitch, and I’m sure a lot of the other guys are, I’m in a head space where we can’t lose,” said Shea Wagner, senior center.

“It’s an amazing feeling. It’s something that everybody dreams about, but what you don’t really see is the work that everybody else did to get to that position,” said Brett Benham, senior wing/fullback.

Benham scored the game-winning try with no time remaining.

Wagner was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
