Children, families and staff at Bathgate Early Years Centre have played their part in helping communities in the developing world.

The nursery held a raffle during Fairtrade Fortnight and raised £120.

The children have been learning about the importance of clean water, so they decided to donate the proceeds from the raffle to the Toilet Twinning project.

Their donation enabled Bathgate Early Years Centre to provide and twin with two toilets in Afghanistan and Nepal.

"The Toilet Twinning project is an excellent way to help those in desperate poverty to have access to a proper latrine, clean water and the information they need to be healthy.

"Our children were delighted to receive a Toilet Twinning certificate, complete with a colour photo of its twin toilet and GPS coordinates so children, parents and staff can look up our toilet twins on Google Maps.

"This initiative has not only developed our children’s awareness of the importance of clean water but also developed an understanding of global citizenship through learning about children in other countries and also Fairtrade.”
