Free the Bears Fundraiser

A group of Wellington business have started a campaign to support the charity organisation Free the Bears. Little Yellow Bird Founder, Samantha Jones, kicked off the project by approaching other Wellingtonian based businesses she knew shared her passion for conservation and animal welfare.

“I really love bears and what started as an idea to make a t-shirt that I would personally enjoy wearing, quickly turned into a whole campaign around supporting bears and providing funding to support bear rehabilitation” said Jones.

The project is backed by Wellingtonian businesses Fix and Fogg who have provided their exclusive honey flavoured peanut butter, Flight Coffee who is supplying their Burundi honey processed coffee which gives it delicious notes of pear, honeysuckle and blackberry, Yeastie Boys who are supplying the Beer and the Neighbourhood Studio who have done all the printing locally.

All of the merchandise is made by Little Yellow Bird using Fairtrade and Organic cotton so it was important to the team that they partner with other ventures that share their commitment to sustainable sourcing. “Almost all environmental and animal welfare violations can be linked back to poverty, so it’s important that we recognise this and utilise our collective buying power to change it” said Jones.

Free the Bears is a non-profit dedicated to protecting, preserving and enriching the lives of bears and has saved more than 900 bears over its last 20 years of operation. Wellington Zoo, a charitable organisation supporting Free the Bears through its conservation fund, is home to Sean the Sun Bear. Sean was found by an Australian businessman, chained outside a shop in Phnom Penh, and rescued by him on the back of his motorbike. Via Free the Bears Sean found a home at Wellington Zoo where he is a great ambassador for bear conservation in Asia.

The Bear supporters pack is available for a limited time only with 100% of the profits going directly to Free the Bears.
