Buy an experience

Fancy a weekend escape glamping in the Lake District?

There's a huge selection of places that offer great experience packages, if you don't fancy giving the one you love an object.

Instead make their day with an indoor skydiving experience for two from Buyagift or a romantic break glamping in the Lake District, available from Virgin Experience Days.

There are lots of great options out there, depending on how adventurous your other half is, and how much you want to spend.

Get a gift card

Gift cards are a stress free gift idea and you can get them delivered straight to your partner

If you really cannot (because you are clueless), or do not want to (because you are lazy) buy an actual gift, there is always the fall back of getting you partner a gift card.

But we wouldn't advocate whacking £50 on a Sainsbury's voucher if you want to score brownie points. Instead, at least pretend to have given it some thought, and opt for something a bit more out of the box.

Get your music fan boyfriend Ticketmaster gift vouchers so he can buy tickets to see his favourite band. Or spoil your girlfriend with some Treatwell vouchers so she can book that beauty treatment she keeps talking about.

If you're buying for a foodie, getting them vouchers to spend at their favourite restaurant could be a great shout - Nandos and Wagamamas do them.

If you're really stuck, there's always the one4all gift card which can be used at over 50,000 retailers nationwide, including popular brands John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and Amazon.

Pay for a subscription

It's simple yet oh so effective. There’s a huge range of subscription items out there from Birchbox's popular monthly beauty bundle to geek merch from Loot Crate.

A Netflix, Apple Music or Spotify subscription is a great option too.

If you're feeling flush why not gift an Amazon Prime membership for the year? For £79 you get one-hour delivery on your Amazon orders, unlimited music, TV and film streaming to 15,000 movies and TV episodes, and access to 800,000 Kindle books. Plus access to the exclusive Prime Day shopping event.

Pick up some booze

Treat your partner to a bottle of their favourite tipple

If your Valentine knows their Rioja from their Pinot Noir, or their IPA from their Lager, then opting for something alcohol related is probably a good shout.

We've spotted a good range of wine hampers for all budgets - from Fortnum and Mason's Lovestruck hamper for £85 to M&S' more pocket-friendly £20 Your Secret Admirer's Gift Box.

Moonpig also have a great priced three-pack beer set, for £16.

Find some (nice) shop bought Valentine's flowers

Supermarket bought flowers are no longer a naff alternative to luxurious bouquets

You don't have to fork out over the odds for some nice flowers this Valentine's, a number of supermarket chains are pulling out the stops to offer affordable and luxurious looking bouquets - much to our delight.

Budget supermarket Aldi is selling 100 sweetheart roses for £25 - but you'll need to get in there early to bag yours.

Tesco shoppers can save a whopping £47 on the supermarket's £18 dozen roses bouquet compared to leading online florist Interflora's near identical version.

Eating out on Valentine's Day can be pricey, but there are plenty of great dine-in options - from supermarket meal deals to takeaway special offers.

Nearly all the major supermarket chains, including Iceland, Tesco and Waitrose are all offering Valentine's Day meal deals for two.

M&S have one for £20 and it includes starter, main, sides, dessert and wine for £20, while Asda have a three-course meal and wine deal for the slightly cheaper price of £15.
